Ingredients you need
- Mini Nutella Glass jar
- Strong Coffee: For the best flavor, I recommend using an immersion-brewed coffee like a French press, AeroPress, or a hybrid method like the Clever dripper. These brewing methods bring out a rich, full-bodied taste that pairs perfectly with Nutella. But if you’re short on time or tools, a shot of espresso or a cup from your coffee machine will work beautifully too!
- Milk or a plant-based alternative
- Heavy cream, plant-based works here as well. Nutella and ½ tsp powdered sugar for the Nutella-flavored whipped cream.
How To Make a Nutella Coffee From Scratch
Step 1: Start by preparing the Nutella-flavored whipped cream. In a mixing bowl, combine whipping cream, 1 tsp Nutella, and 1/2 tsp powdered sugar. Whip using a hand or stand mixer until it reaches a light, fluffy consistency. Place the whipped cream in the fridge to chill until needed.
Step 2: Brew your coffee of choice. I recommend using a strong, immersion-brewed coffee for a rich flavor.
Step 3: Heat the milk in a small saucepan on the stove, in the microwave, or with the steam wand of your espresso machine.
Step 4: Stir half a small jar of Nutella (about 1 large teaspoon, approximately 12 g) into the hot milk until it’s fully melted and you have a creamy Nutella milk.
Step 5: Pour the brewed coffee into a serving glass, then top it with the Nutella milk.
Step 6: Use a piping bag to swirl the Nutella-flavored whipped cream on top of your drink, and sprinkle with a touch of brittle for a delightful finish.
Barista Tips
Immersion-brewed coffee is recommended for this Nutella coffee recipe because it produces a rich, full-bodied cup that enhances the drink’s depth of flavor.
With methods like the French press, AeroPress, or Clever dripper, the coffee grounds steep in water for a longer time, allowing for more extraction of oils and aromatic compounds.
This results in a bolder, smoother coffee with a round, less acidic taste that pairs beautifully with Nutella’s creamy, nutty, and chocolaty notes.
The thickness of immersion-brewed coffee also gives it a satisfying weight, which balances out the sweetness and texture of the Nutella milk, making each sip feel more indulgent and satisfying—perfect for cozying up with on a chilly day.
