Warm Up Your Coffee with Homemade Gingerbread Syrup

Is there anything more festive than the warm, spicy aroma of gingerbread filling your kitchen? This homemade gingerbread simple syrup is the perfect way to capture that cozy Christmas magic and infuse it into your favorite coffee drinks—or even your holiday cocktails. And the best part? You can whip it up yourself with just a handful of pantry staples and a little love. Why spend extra on store-bought versions when you can create something even better right at home?

Curious how this homemade syrup can transform your coffee into a winter wonderland in a cup?

Let me show you how!

I’m a big believer that homemade is always better—especially when it comes to syrups for coffee and cocktails. Not only is it more affordable, but you also get to skip the artificial additives and customize the flavor exactly to your liking. Plus, a bottle of this gingerbread syrup makes a thoughtful and delicious Christmas gift. Just imagine handing a friend a beautifully wrapped jar of this festive goodness—homemade holiday cheer in a bottle!

So, grab your saucepan and a whisk, and let’s dive into this simple, heartwarming recipe together. Your coffee (and your holiday spirit) will thank you. 🎄✨

Ingredients you need

Ingredients gingerbread simple syrup - sugar, water, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, maple syrup, ginger, and allspice.
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Whole allspice
  • Fresh ginger
  • Cloves
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Granulated sugar
  • Water

How to make Gingerbread Syrup

Step 1: Chop the fresh ginger root into small pieces.

Step 2: In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients except the honey or maple syrup. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Step 3: Lower the heat and whisk until the sugar has fully dissolved. Let the syrup simmer on low heat for another 25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 4: Check the syrup’s consistency. For coffee, a thicker syrup works best, while a runnier texture is great for cocktails. If it’s still too runny, continue simmering until you achieve your desired viscosity.

Step 5: Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the honey or maple syrup.

Add the maple syrup at the end!

Step 6: Once the syrup has cooled, strain it through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the ginger pieces. Pour the strained syrup into a clean jar or airtight bottle, and add the cinnamon stick back into the syrup to infuse extra flavor over time.

Storage

To keep your homemade gingerbread syrup fresh and flavorful:

  • Store in a cool, dark place: A pantry or cupboard away from direct sunlight is perfect.
  • Use an airtight container: A clean glass jar or bottle with a tight seal will help preserve the syrup’s freshness.
  • Refrigerate for longer storage: While the syrup can last 1-2 weeks at room temperature, refrigeration extends its shelf life up to a month.

Tip: Always use a clean spoon when scooping syrup to avoid introducing any contaminants. If you notice any changes in smell, color, or texture, it’s time to make a fresh batch! 🎄

Such a great way to add that holiday flavor to coffee! Your instructions made it super easy too. I don’t think I’ll be buying ready made syrup again, when this is so much easier.
Also brought a bottle of it as gift for a friend and she loved it!
