I love getting cozy on cold nights with a hot drink. When I need a delicious warmup without the caffeine, there is nothing quite like this Almond Vanilla Milk!

I love trying new things with my drinks; it’s an easy way to experiment and have fun! That is why I adore this deliciously simple update on a classic hot drink.

It’s an incredibly delicious infused dairy with a silky, smooth vanilla flavor. You will love this easy and versatile recipe, whether you’re enjoying it on its own or mixing it with your favorite tea or coffee.

Ingredients you need

  • Almond Milk: Almond milk is a great alternative to cow’s milk, especially for those with coeliac disease, as it is cholesterol and gluten-free. However, it is important to note that almond milk contains very little protein, and virtually no calcium or minerals due to production processes.
  • Vanilla Bean: The key to this luscious vanilla-flavored drink is whole vanilla bean. Vanilla pods hide a wonderful pulpy inside that can be scraped and used as needed. Using authentic vanilla is the only way to create a true, creamy, and sweet vanilla flavor.
  • Brown Sugar: A hint of brown sugar sweetens the warm drink while also adding an intriguing molasses note to complement the vanilla.

Step-by-step Vanilla Milk

Step One: Slice both vanilla pods and scrape out the seeds of one. Add the pulp and halved pod to the pan.

Cut the vanilla bean lengthwise.
Scrape out the vanilla pulp.

Step Two: Pour in the milk and heat on low. Do not boil!

Step Three: Once the milk is warm, stir in the brown sugar.

Add the milk to the saucepan.
Add the brown sugar to the vanilla milk.

Step Four: Strain the vanilla milk and then use or chill.

Substitutions

The original recipe calls for almond milk, but it also works very well with lactose-free milk or whole milk.

If you like a sweeter taste, you can add a couple of extra scoops of brown sugar.

Barista Tips

  • The longer you leave the vanilla in the milk to infuse, the more intense the flavor will be. You can even opt to refrigerate the mixture overnight and then strain for a super intense and delicious vanilla taste.
  • If you want a little extra texture in your vanilla milk, try frothing it. Use a handheld frother or French press to create a nice foamy texture, but remember that the milk should be between 131°F and 149°F to create the ideal foam.
  • Remember to choose barista-quality alternative milk. It has a nice thick texture, thanks to the added plant fat, which makes it sensational to sip.
  • You can use this creamy vanilla milk in all your favorite recipes for cafe con leche, lattes, cappuccinos, teas, and more. Or try it on its own as a delicious alternative to hot chocolate!

Products

  • Measuring Tools
  • Saucepan and Spoon: I like to use a wooden spoon.
  • Cutting Board and Sharp Knife: The back of a nice paring knife is the perfect tool to scrape out the innards of a vanilla bean.
