This warm and creamy drink brings together freshly brewed coffee, silky milk froth, and the irresistible sweetness of real maple syrup. The flavor is rich and mellow, less floral than honey, with a subtle caramel warmth that pairs perfectly with coffee’s natural depth. It’s simple, satisfying, and a beautiful way to start your day with something that feels just a little special.

For this recipe, I’m brewing my coffee in an AeroPress, but honestly, use whatever method makes you happiest! Whether it’s a French press, your fully automatic coffee machine, or even a small pour-over, the magic lies in the blend of coffee, milk, and that golden drizzle of maple syrup. This recipe is all about comfort and connection. The kind of cup that makes you pause, take a deep breath, and smile before diving into your day.

This maple syrup coffee works beautifully with an AeroPress, a French press, or a Clever Dripper (my personal favorite for smooth, balanced cups).   • Maple Syrup – Pure maple syrup adds a natural, caramel-like sweetness that pairs beautifully with coffee’s richness. Start with a small drizzle and adjust to taste. It’s easy to add more if you prefer a bolder maple flavor.
  • Optional Milk (and Toppings) – Top your maple coffee with freshly frothed milk for a cozy, café-style finish. Whole milk gives the creamiest result, but oat or almond milk are wonderful dairy-free options.

How To Make Maple Syrup Coffee at Home

Step 1: Brew your favorite coffee.
Use your preferred method (AeroPress, Clever Dripper, or French Press), whichever you enjoy most! Aim for a strong, flavorful cup that can hold its own against the sweetness of the maple syrup.

Step 2: Add the maple magic.
While the coffee is still hot, stir in your maple syrup. I like to pour the syrup straight into the glass carafe where I brewed my coffee (it works perfectly with an AeroPress or Clever Dripper). The gentle heat helps the maple syrup dissolve beautifully, infusing every sip with that cozy sweetness.

Step 3: Pour, sip, and smile.
Pour your maple-sweetened coffee into your favorite mug, add milk if you’d like, and enjoy that warm, comforting aroma. You can absolutely dust it with cinnamon, top it with whipped cream, or add a bit milk or cream into your bevy. If that’s your style, but personally, I prefer to keep it clear and simple. I love tasting the pure harmony between coffee and maple without any distractions.

Barista Tips

When it comes to brewing, the SCA recommends a coffee-to-water ratio of about 1:16 to 1:18, that’s roughly 55 g of coffee per liter of water. For a cozy home cup, this gives you a balanced, flavorful brew that’s not too weak and not too strong.

But here’s the fun part: you can absolutely play around with it! If you love your coffee rich and bold (so it stands up beautifully to milk and maple syrup), try a slightly stronger 1:12 to 1:14 ratio instead.

Grades explained

  • Grade A Golden, Delicate Taste: Light in color and mild in flavor. It’s lovely for drizzling over pancakes but can get a little lost in coffee.
  • Grade A Amber, Rich Taste: My personal favorite for coffee. It has a deeper caramel flavor that complements coffee’s roasted notes without overpowering them.
  • Grade A Dark, Robust Taste: Bold, toasty, and full-bodied. Perfect if you like your maple flavor to shine or you’re using a strong, dark-roast coffee.
  • Very Dark, Strong Taste: Almost molasses-like and best for baking or when you want a really intense maple kick.

A few extra tips

  • Always look for pure maple syrup rather than pancake syrup blends. The real thing offers a cleaner sweetness and richer aroma.
  • Storage: Keep it in the fridge once opened to preserve flavor and freshness.
  • If your syrup has crystallized a little, gently warm the bottle in hot water and it will return to silky perfection.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Strong-brewed coffee 210 ml
  • 1 tbsp Pure maple syrup 15 ml

Method
 

  1. Brew 1 cup Strong-brewed coffeeusing your preferred method.

  2. Stir 1 tbsp Pure maple syrup directly into your brewed coffee while it’s still hot. (If you brewed into a glass carafe, you can mix it right there.)

  3. Pour the sweetened coffee into your favorite mug.
  4. Add a splash of milk or cream if you like, or enjoy it black for a pure maple-coffee flavor.
  5. Optional: Add Ground cinnamon or Homemade Maple Whipped Cream if you fancy.
